Welcome to Functional Momma.

I first started Functional Momma with the intention to teach others about functional medicine and how our genetics, environment, and lifestyle choices affect our current and future health–a 360 degree approach to living well.

While that is still my goal I have realized that Functional Momma means so much more to me. 

When I think about being a mom I literally think about doing all of the things. As moms we wear so many hats and are responsible for managing different personalities and schedules every single day. It’s a brilliant but exhausting job and sometimes it feels like all we are trying to do is function normally. 

What is functioning normally?

Well, in terms of health it’s getting enough sleep, it’s eating nutritiously, it’s managing stress, it’s exercising, it’s socializing, it’s all the things we need to feel our very best when our feet hit the floor each morning. We have little humans (and husbands) that depend on us for everything, so if we feel bad, every thing starts piling up on us.

My belief is that it starts with mom. If the star quarterback is down, the whole family is down. If mom is on point, well… everyone else might not be on point, but it sure makes the struggles seem more bearable!

So Functional Momma is revamped in my mind. Yes, I am here to hopefully teach you a thing or two you didn’t know about health, but I’m also here just as a mom trying to function and get through the day, just like you! The secret is, we don’t have to feel bad while doing it. We can THRIVE not just survive.

About me:

I’m a mom who is passionately into nerding out over all things health and wellness. I am an enthusiast who devotes her time to the latest research so that I can make better, more informed health decisions for my family.

Before I was a mom I was a certified personal trainer that competed in bodybuilding competitions. Yes, I wore an itty-bitty bikini on stage in front of hundreds of people (I have pictures to prove it!) but health looked different to me then. Instead of only focusing on the external aspect of “health” I am now committed to a 360-degree approach to overall health — from the inside, out.

When my priorities changed to focusing on tiny humans I started to delve deeper into the principles of functional health which integrates all bodily systems as a whole instead of separate entities, joining everything together in unity to function at optimal level.

Functional Momma was born on the idea of living proactively and that in order to see a change in my family’s future wellbeing, it had to start with me.

I spend most of my time with my 2 sons, in my kitchen cooking, or at the kitchen table working from my laptop. Since I started this blog I landed my dream job working as a Functional Nutrition Health Coach at a company called Nutrition Dynamic and am now apart of something greater than myself. This company is making waves and taking the industry by storm. It’s such an honor and a blessing to call myself a member of this group of elite coaches.
